I thought I'd reveal my newest project, which is an OpenGL game, its nothing special yet, but its quickly gaining things, I hope to soon have a basic 3D enviroment with a low level physics engine going, at which point I'll release not only the application for having a mess around with, but the source code.

My new game will be open source, allowing everyone here to learn some coding. It will be coded with OpenGL in C++, and will require MinGW (or similar, depending on the machine you are compiling on), beyond the basic functions of drawing images I plan on making everything myself, my own functions for objects, structures for physics, placement etc.

So far, the game without a name has:
Movement.
Collision detection (bounding box).
Ability to draw walls, floor, and alters.

I'll open a sourceforge acount soon, and upload code to there. At the moment I'm working with a set of source files I've created, all myself (following guides from NeHe and majorly editing the code), and using the basic engine from tutorial 7 or whatever I got up to before I got bored and stopped

I'm opening this thread so that you know what I'm doing next, and so I can get everyones input. I'm not sure what the game is going to be based on, a name, anything, at the moment I'm pretty much building the functions to create a game, and not the game itself.

Keep an eye on this thread if you are interested, I'll be updating it soon I think, when I have my sourceforge acount open and some test binaries for you.

Exactly what I said in the first post, there is no idea for the game yet, just the basic physics engine is being created, plus a few objects.

P.S. About to work on my backwards collision now, and then I'll create a maze me-thinks.

Ok, I have my first screenshot of the "game", its simply of a square room with an alter of fire in it.

I've created a map reader, but its not working (closes the game down straight away) so I'm going to fix that, and possibly upload a working version of what I have so far, minus source code as its all over the place and extreamly messy.

Ok, I fixed that bit, turns out the entire problem was nothing to do with my map reading, but to do with my collision detecting... (I feel a Simpsons quote coming), "I forgot to carry the one"... damn that one...

Anyway, you'll need to find 2 images, and rename them alter.bmp and brick.bmp, they should be between 256x256 and 512x512, and go in a folder called images, I would upload the ones I'm using, except they aren't actually mine (when I get my hands on Photoshop again I'll make some graphics).

The map is rather complex at the moment to set up, diagonals do not work, so don't even try them. If you want to have a mess around with the maps, be my guest, it gets easier once you know whats going on (I'm still learning to use my own map layout  ).

Just applied for an acount on Sourceforge, hopefully they'll accept it and then I'll start to host the code as its changed.
